Preparing for Sub-zero Temperatures

  1. Seal cracks and holes in your structure & check the weather stripping around doors and windows.
  2. Insulate pipes & cover outdoor plumbing fixtures.
  3. Have your HVAC unit serviced and keep your home at a consistent temperature.
  4. Check your home's insulation to ensure attic spaces and exterior walls are properly insulated.
  5. Open cabinets under sinks to allow warm air to reach pipes.
  6. Clean your gutters and keep clear of debris.
  7. Keep faucets open and water flowing.

What to Do if A Pipe Freezes or Bursts

  1. Shut off the water.
  2. Attempt to locate the frozen pipe and check for leaks.
  3. Open faucets connected to that pipe.
  4. Attempt to thaw (do not use an open flame to do this; a hair dryer is ideal).
  5. Call a plumber to repair leaking or burst pipes.
  6. Call SERVPRO for 24/7 emergency water mitigation services.
